The Foodservice Industry Association NSW (FIA) is a foodservice membership association comprised of vibrant foodservice manufacturing and import businesses which service all sections of the foodservice industry.
The FIA is proud to announce its support of Foodbank as an association.
FIA President Frank Furlong said “FIA Members will have the opportunity to take advantage of Foodbank’s logistics and distribution systems to donate surplus product at any time during the year. Further to this, the FIA regularly conducts Foodservice Trade Shows throughout regional NSW and the ACT. With our new Foodbank arrangement, exhibitors will now have the opportunity to donate left-over foodservice product through Foodbank’s system as well.”
Foodbank NSW & ACT CEO, Gerry Andersen says, “Food donations are an integral way for Foodbank to provide vulnerable Australians with nutrition and the comfort of much-needed meals. We are very grateful to partner with the FIA who help to make this happen.”
Going forward, FIA Foodservice Trade Shows will continue to offer business opportunities and knowledge for foodservice businesses while also ensuring minimal waste is produced from its activities.
The FIA is looking forward to a long partnership with Foodbank by bringing together its Supplier Members to provide foodservice products which the Foodbank system will convert to meals for vulnerable Australians – especially those in rural NSW and ACT farming communities.
“In good seasons, farmers are amongst the most generous donors of food to people in need across NSW. But while giving so much, our rural and regional communities also regularly do it tough –sometimes more so than their metro counterparts. 29% of Australians experiencing food insecurity live in rural and regional communities, and more than 40% of all food and grocery items distributed by Foodbank NSW & ACT annually goes to these regions,” said Gerry.

Foodbank is Australia’s largest food relief organisation, providing approximately 70% of food assistance to individuals and families across NSW & the ACT. We partner with over 660 charity partners and schools to distribute food to those facing hardship, with over 167,000 people receiving food assistance each month. Foodbank NSW & ACT work closely with the Australian Food and Grocery Industry, farmers, wholesalers, manufacturers and retailers to source stock that does not meet retail standards or is excess to demand.
